How To Flatter a Pear Shaped Body

Let’s face it, not all of us are stick thin (thank goodness) and even less of us have that perfect hourglass figure that we all dream of having. If you are like most women, you have a pear shaped body, meaning that your shoulders tend to be a bit smaller in width than your hips. Rather than curse your body type and try to conceal it, why not try to flatter your shape and celebrate your sexy curves?
Tip #1: Accentuate that Waistline
Your waist is the thinnest part of your body, which is why it needs to be accentuated to give your body a bit more proportion. You can easily do this by adding a belt, a scarf, or any other accessory that will tie around the smallest part of your waist. A lot of shorts and jackets these days come with belts and scarves sewn or provided with the clothing for this purpose alone. Doing this will help draw the eye away from your hip area and up to your waist, so you will be giving people the illusion of having smaller hips, thighs, and buns.
Tip #2: Hide those Problem Areas
Most of us ladies all have the same problem with the same areas: The hips, the thighs, and the butt. Common sense tells us to hide these problem areas, which is true, but a lot of us go about it the wrong way. Wearing larger, baggier clothing only accentuates the problem areas and wearing a muumuu really only worsens the problem ten fold.
The key here is to do the opposite of what your mind may be telling you. Don’t try to throw a large sheet over your lower half; instead find skirts and pants that are slim and that will simply skim over these areas. Flair cut trousers and jeans are a great choice, as are A-line skirts.
Tip #3: Venture Outside of Black
If you are right now trying to tell yourself that what you’re wearing is just a dark navy, chances are that you are one of many women who really just lives in black. Black is slimming, right? Well so are other colors! Darker colors are flattering, true, but you can venture outside of the dark colors. Dark colors like dark browns, grays, plums and yes, navy, should be worn on the bottom half, but on the upper half you can wear brighter, bolder colors to really add a bit of flair and interest to your wardrobe.
Tip #4: Accessorize!
The best thing about accessories is that no matter how much we gain or lose, there’s a good chance that they will always fit. If you don’t want to have people noticing your wider hips, then really focus on accessories for the upper half of the body. You can throw on a trendy, flashy necklace, elegant earrings, a well placed scarf, or even a headband in your hair. You don’t have to throw on a ton of accessories; just one or two will do the trick.
